FAQ
Q1: What does the code ADN-80-25-I-P-A tell me?
A: Read it as series, bore, stroke, rod end, cushioning and sensing. ADN is the compact cylinder series to ISO 21287, 80 is the 80 mm piston diameter and 25 is the 25 mm stroke. The I marks the internal piston rod thread, the P the elastic cushioning rings at both ends, and the final A the version that takes proximity sensors, which Festo confirms in the datasheet.
Q2: How much force does it give?
A: Festo rates 3016 N advancing and 2827 N retracting at 6 bar, theoretical figures at the piston. The working range is 0.6 to 10 bar, so at 4 bar you get roughly two thirds of that, and the barrel is rated for the full 10 bar. Size the load from the pressure you actually run, not from the maximum.
Q3: What thread, ports and mounting does it have?
A: The piston rod ends in an M12 female thread, so a rod clevis or a rod eye screws straight in. The air ports are G1/8, and the body mounts on through-holes, on internal threads, or with Festo mounting accessories, in any position. Moving mass is 347 g and the complete cylinder weighs about 1.19 kg.
Q4: What is the difference between I-P-A and A-P-A?
A: The letter before the P is the rod end. I is the internal thread, M12 on this bore, and A is the male thread, which Festo makes M16x1.5 on the 80 mm bore. Both are 80 mm bore, 25 mm stroke, double-acting cylinders with elastic cushioning, and both take proximity sensors. Order by the full code, because the thread decides which rod accessory fits.
Q5: Can I use an SMC or Norgren cylinder of the same size?
A: Mechanically the 80 x 25 ISO 21287 cylinders share the mounting and the bore and stroke, which is why the crossover numbers are listed above. They are not identical: the rod thread, the cushioning type, the port size and the sensing groove can differ between makes. If you are replacing one brand with another, send us the old part and we confirm the thread and the ports before you order.
Q6: How do I check it fits my installation?
A: Read the label on the old cylinder: the full code gives bore, stroke, rod end and cushioning in one line, and the five-digit number confirms it. Measure the stroke if the label is gone, and check the rod thread with a thread gauge or a known nut. Send us a photo of the label and the mounting and we will confirm the match.
