FAQ
Q1: What does the OVF20 CR drive do in an Otis lift?
A: It is the VVVF inverter that feeds the traction motor, and it works as part of the MCS220 controller with LCB II. The board that controls it is the MCB3X, which sits on the power section of the same package. This listing is for the 5 kW package, GCA21342B10.
Q2: I fitted a new drive and the lift will not run. Why?
A: All the drive parameters are held in the EEPROM, not in the new package. The EEPROM has to be carried over from the old drive, or the parameter set has to be reloaded from a backup made with the service tool. Otis states that the unit cannot run correctly on default values, so a drive that has never been set up will not move the car.
Q3: Can I buy only the board instead of the whole drive?
A: The package is modular and the boards can be supplied separately. It is built from the MCB3X control board, the DCB_II power board on the 5 kW version, and the PDB_II board. Send us the part number screen from the service tool, and the serial numbers of each board, and we will confirm which board has failed.
Q4: What is the difference between the 5 kW and the 9 kW version?
A: The power section is different: the 5 kW package uses one power board, the DCB_II, while the 9 kW package uses the PBX and a second power board. The control board, the service tool and the parameter handling are the same on both. A 5 kW lift cannot be uprated by fitting the 9 kW drive, because the motor and the contract parameters have to match.
Q5: Which faults point to the drive rather than to the motor?
A: Otis lists overspeed, line power failure, EEPROM read and write errors, and the general shut-down event among the drive events. An EEPROM error is reported as a data problem, not as a power problem, and it is cleared by the EEPROM self test and then by replacing the EEPROM. Please read the event list before ordering, because several events are caused by the encoder or by the supply and not by the drive.
Q6: How do I confirm the part number and the software?
A: The service tool plugs into P9 on the MCB3X, and the part number display shows the package duty, the nominal line voltage and the rated output current. The same screen shows the software version and the main configuration. Send us a photo of the drive label and of that screen, and we will confirm the correct replacement before shipping.
